The fullest expression of Vasisthasana (side plank pose), is a challenging, yet beautifully enriching pose. As the translation of vasistha is “most excellent, best, richest,” once the balance between the mind, body, and self is reached within this pose, that combination of words is somehow translated into an unparalleled feeling of satisfaction.
There are many variations of Vasisthasana, making it accessible to all levels. To aide in balance and stability, press the soles of the feet against a wall, lower the bottom leg to the floor, or stack your feet and bring them slightly apart with the inner edge of your right foot and outer edge of your left foot both on the floor.
Once you’re stable, try taking your upper leg into tree pose or fully extend your leg to the sky.
